This is look #2 of my Dressing Professionally Series! (If you have missed my previous look, you can click here). For this look, I want us to talk about colour! In a more conservative environment, it is highly recommended to choose neutrals over brights because you don't want to be remembered by your clothing. This is especially true if you are trying to make a lasting first impression. However, if you're going for a more casual look, like for fridays, I would suggest getting a pair (or two) coloured dress pants. Once again, nothing too tight on the legs. I love colors, so for me to be stuck in neutral colours all the time, would be extremely boring. A pop of colour is a great way to add more spice into the working environment and can actually lift your mood in the office.
Did you know that different colours have different meaning? Red, for example, is a bright, powerful color that shows energy and passion. A pop of red (for example, in a scarf or tie) can convey the passion without making you appear too emotional. However, I would suggest limiting the number of brightly coloured items in your outfit. So this means, neutral colours for the blouse please.
Lastly, if you're going to add a bright colour to your outfit, please keep your accessories to a minimal. You really want to choose your jewelry carefully. Too much or too big jewelry could take the professional edge off of your look. In my case, a thin, rose gold necklace along with a matching rose gold watch, are just the right amount.
