We’re all trying the make the pennies and pounds stretch as far as possible these days, and, with Christmas looming, the purse strings are likely to be tighter than ever!
While it’s lovely to be able to splash out on a whole new wardrobe when the seasons change, not everyone has the cash to spend this year. Instead, why not look at how you can revamp you summer favourites, to last well into autumn? Here’s how:
The Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses really are a summer favourite, being comfortable as well as stylish. However, once the weather turns the maxi is sent to languish in a suitcase in the loft, along with abandoned kaftans and lonely bikinis. Make your maxi last a little longer by layering it up with a longline cardigan or a cropped jacket – denim jackets look great with florals, whereas a biker would look good with animal print. You can also pull your maxi in with a waist belt to make it look less ‘floaty summer wear’ and more ‘stylish autumn wear’.
The Playsuit
The playsuit has really come into its own this summer, but it can still be worn well into autumn with the humble addition of that autumn saviour, tights. Just add biker boots to toughen up the look, for an all weather, all season, easy to wear outfit.
The Midi Dress
Midi dresses are just as good for autumn as they were for summer, and a denim waistcoat layered over a midi looks especially on trend. Or wear with a blazer and heels for stylish autumn work wear.
The fit and flare skater dress is super flattering and there’s no reason why you have to bid it a sorrowful goodbye until next year. Leggings look great under a skater, as the skirt doesn’t cling, and ankle boots or shoe boots will finish off the look.
Short Shorts
If you’re brave enough to wear the shortest shorts over summer then you’ll love adding this autumn’s coolest boot to the mix – the over the knee. Suede or leather over the knee boots go great with short shorts and tights, and this combo can be worn with everything from oversized knits to shirts, to keep the chill at bay.
Sometimes it’s simply a matter of layering up what you already have in your summer wardrobe, to make it last the little bit longer. For example, a simple tee will look great under a strappy sundress, and chunky longline cardigans look fantastic with shorts and boots, or leggings.
Add a few style staples – a good pair of jeans, a cardigan or two, and some thick tights – to your summer wardrobe and you’ll give it a whole new lease of life for autumn. You can save those pennies and look stylish with a little lateral thinking!
