Had another amazing bird adventure in the garden this week, on a very warm day which offered up a very welcome few hours of sunshine and blue sky! Definitely did not feel like January. (C'mon Spring!)A visit out to the garden with Tuck...we were both looking around to see where some very LOUD pounding was coming from. With all of our tall forest trees and the way our property is situated, sound is difficult to locate, as everything echos. I first dismissed it as the neighbors up the road that are building a new garage...however it was Tuck that saw him first...walked over and sat with his head cocked to one side.
Yup, there it was...a very LARGE Pileated woodpecker, hammering away on one of our monstrous cedar trees. We stood motionless for a bit and then crept up a little closer...he was not bothered at all that we were there and turned is head around a few times to watch us. This is our first viewing of a Pileated. I was happy to get some really good photos, but excited that my first video clip turned out half way decent!
